A while ago I went up to visit Venetia Stanley-Smith Kajiyama at her home in the Kyoto countryside. Her sight is not so good now, but she still gets great pleasure from singing—her voice is still strong and she knows all the words. Her regular NHK TV programme 猫のしっぽ カエルの手 [English title: At Home with Venetia in Kyoto] wanted to film her singing one of her favourite songs, Scarborough Fair. It is a popular song in Japan and a kind of signature tune for her since she is well known for her beautiful herb garden which she has written about in her books. I also had to make lunch using her Scarborough Fair Pilaf recipe. It was a beautiful day and she enjoyed singing and the sunshine (I'm not such a good cook 😅) .
